Event Details

The Virginia Folklife Program (VFP) at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities (VFH), in partnership with the Blue Ridge Institute (BRI) at Ferrum College and the Smithsonian Institution, is coordinating the Roots of Virginia Culture portion of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the National Mall in Washington D.C., June 27 – July 1 and July 4 – July 8th.

You are invited to a special event for friends of the VFH and BRI on the evening of July 5 to celebrate the successes of the Virginia Folklife Program, this partnership, and the Festival.

Our guests will be treated to special seating at a Mountain Music Concert sponsored by the BRI on the Festival Grounds. The concert will run from 4:30 to 9:00 PM.

Prior to the concert, we’ll meet at 4:00 PM at the Holiday Inn Capital for food and drinks, and to pick up our special guest seating passes. The hotel is located on C Street just off the National Mall near the Smithsonian Castle at 550C Street SW. (See Directions and Map) Parking is available at the hotel. If taking the Metro, guests should get off at the Smithsonian Metro stop.

Please RSVP online or by calling 434-924-3296 by Friday, June 29.

Please come enjoy food, drink, and the sounds of old time music as we recognize the accomplishments of these two organizations dedicated to the perpetuation of Virginia’s traditional folkways.
